Intuitive with clear spatial intent

Leveraged from the success of Geyer’s strategic thinking for Westpac’s Barangaroo headquarters in Sydney, the workplace supports effective agile work practices tailored to Perth’s specific needs. The design language is confident, legible, warm and approachable, with a sense of presence and longevity.

Distinctive West Australian qualities

The design strategy developed a Perth overlay to distil the essence of the region, its character and culture. The position on Australia’s western edge, sparked notions of wide blue skies, clear long-sighted atmospheres, a sharp quality of light and indigenous materials including salvaged local jarrah. Brick and steel combined with soft, sun-bleached tones enhance the suburban WA feel.

A sense of spaciousness and nature

Generous circulation paths, clear sightlines and a universal sense of spaciousness give a calm and luxurious feel.  Custom lighting features employ a ‘circadian’ rhythm, with light hue and intensity gradually transition to reflect the natural movement of the sun throughout the day, promoting health and vitality in the interior space.

Connected vertical villages

A broad interconnecting stair links a variety of spaces across three levels, creating a vertical village. ‘Neighbourhoods’ feature on each level, supported by breakout kitchens, cafes and a series of meeting and collaboration zones.  Diversity across the interior landscape offers flexibility and choice for people to work where they can be most effective, collaborate and exchange ideas, or reflect and recharge.

Lively collaboration zones

A series of vibrant spaces combine loose furniture, writeable surfaces and seamless technology to encourage workshop activity, collaboration and lateral discussion. Enclosed meeting rooms flex to various display and communication requirements, phone rooms and connect rooms provide private zones for confidentiality, and a secluded library oasis provides inspiration and respite.

Thematic landscape references

The space is enlivened by subtle textural and tonal shifts, and a rhythmic array of sculptural light features that represent blackened trees dotted across a vast landscape.  A number of bespoke ‘rain screens’ constructed from transparent blue-tinted acrylic float delicately between work areas and represent the cool, soothing rain after bushfire.

A shared community

Merging Westpac’s business and creative objectives, the design moves beyond an aesthetic exercise to become an instigator for cultural change.  The client engagement area with views to the Darling Ranges can host up to 150 guests with a full equipped catering kitchen, allowing the broader community can experience the expertise, vibrancy and innovation of the Westpac Group. A framed canopy forms a contemporary interpretation of the domestic Australian pergola, sparking associations with typical suburban social spaces.

Ambitious sustainability and wellbeing

A specialist green-star consultant was engaged to achieve a 6-star green star sustainability target. Initiatives include automated lighting controls, low-VOC paints and finishes, planting for improved air quality, and recycling schemes.  Natural light is maximised, movement is encouraged, and sit-stand workstations feature across all work points.

An iconic coastal workplace

The design presents a compelling narrative for Westpac underpinned by a strong, regional specificity, with spaces carefully choreographed to reflect Western Australia’s unique characteristics; its relaxed, coastal lifestyle, casual vernacular and human spirit. The space brings Westpac’s community aspirations to life in a truly agile way, creating an iconic approachable workplace.

Geyer's long relationship with Westpac

From our first project with Banker's Trust (owned by Westpac) in 1994, Geyer has been in constant partnership in designing workplaces across all their portfolio. Over 100 projects across 24 years, we've constantly raised the bar and driven radically enhanced spaces and processes to one of Australia's top performing companies.

Bank of Melbourne

A new, contemporary agile head office workplace for 360 people gives Bank of Melbourne a platform to support, nurture and realise their potential. It will drive continued success. The new workplace at Rialto needed to define and differentiate the bank from their ‘older brother’, Westpac. It also needed to provide a place for customers and the community to meet and engage. We worked closely with the Bank of Melbourne to transform the accommodation into a strategic business tool supporting deeper engagement with its people, clients and the community, and showcase its unique brand.

Westpac Sydney

Westpac’s headquarters at Barangaroo Tower 2 in Sydney occupies 60,000m2, accommodates 6,000 people and has set a new benchmark in ABW (activity based working) in regards to a people centric solution. As principle tenant of Barangaroo Tower 2, Westpac’s new workplace is one of the largest office complexes in Australia. With the adjacent Westpac Place, this site will support a potential Westpac workforce of up to 15,000 people.

Westpac Melbourne

Situated in the iconic 150 Collins Street building, Westpac’s Melbourne headquarters delivers a workplace design focused on the company’s key business strategies; to make people their advantage, reinforce their leadership and focus on sustainability. The Geyer designed environment is human centered. The people first approach involved translating Westpac's WorkSMART strategy into the physical workplace.  After rigorous engagement with stakeholders, employees and analysis of their working style, a kit of parts was developed responding to the WorkSMART principles and Westpac Melbourne’s specific employee needs.

BT Financial Group Perth

Geyer worked with BTFG to transform their existing workplace environment to a modern, open plan environment which fully supports its people. The new fitout aimed to maximise views and natural light for all BT people and to increase collaborative and meeting spaces to enable BT people to better interact and to provide them with a client facility of which they could be proud.

Epping Sydney

Following the successful development of their Australian Headquarters, Westpac Place, Geyer worked with Westpac to apply the strategic aspirations of the business for to a different category, location and mindset of workers. A strategic workshop explored Westpac’s future vision and objectives for their call centre environments and their role within the business, identifying the need for a shift away from a pure processing environment to a knowledge centre which provides greater customer value. The resulting future focused solution creates a new hybrid operations centre, which will provide Westpac with greater flexibility across their portfolio and support the transition from call centre to knowledge worker.

BT Investment Management

The cultural objective was to improve connectivity and communications and as such Geyer had to find reasons and places for people to come together. Shared spaces were consolidated to ensure the majority of the community would frequent those areas and potentially bump into others in the broader community. These were positioned as three differentiated destinations with the aim to activate movement and thus energise the extremities of the fit out. Spaces included the café/interchange (a social bump zone that is shared with clients) a library (for reflection and focus) and a communal depot area (for energised group focus/news break).

Westpac Business Banking Sydney

Geyer was initially commissioned to provide a design for Westpac Business Banking sites aligned to their completed Westpac Headquarters. Geyer challenged Westpac to take this brief further by carrying out extensive workshop sessions with Westpac Branding, Retail and Corporate departments to form strategic objectives specific to Business Banking. This brief was translated into the Westpac Business Banking design which has its own identity while still retaining synergies with Westpac retail branches and their corporate headquarters. The result was an innovative, high quality functional space that clearly differentiates Westpac Business Banking and supports the achievement of high employee satisfaction.
