Geyer collaborated with Suncorp to develop a destinational store of 400m2 across two levels in the heart of Sydney’s busy retail precinct; the first of its kind on Pitt Street Mall. Geyer and Suncorp pushed the boundaries of what a financial services experience could be, shaping the retail experience around the customer. The result is an inviting environment and an empowering experience where people feel welcomed and comfortable to discuss all their financial needs.

An empowering, customer-centric experience


Cited as ‘not another bank’, the store empowers customers to understand their financial profile and wellbeing in an inspiring and relaxing space that exceeds their needs and expectations. The store shapes the retail experience around the customer with a focus on a ‘needs led’ than a ‘product lead’ environment. This required a shift in Suncorp’s operational model from an ‘us and them’ approach to a collaborative and empowering engagement, where barriers between staff and customers are diminished to enable genuine exchanges. The store’s constantly changing programs of events and workshops delivers additional value for customers and encourages them to return.

A beacon of the Suncorp brand


The store’s illuminated entry portal boldly articulates the Suncorp brand to the mall, disrupting the visual field of noisy commercial branding on Pitt Street and inciting a sense of curiosity. The transparent façade draws focus inward to the bustling hive of activity, encouraging customers to discover the Suncorp brand through an immersive, physical experience.

Intuitive Navigation


Customers are transported from the bustle of the city into an oasis of zones that are not divided by walls but are alive, permeable and woven around each other. The Oval invites customers to explore the space on their terms and move intuitively across the levels. The store’s Show space attracts customers through a landscape of colour, light and sound that reflects the weather patterns, filling the store with a seasonal rhythm of nature. The Clearing attracts customers to engage with its program of activities, while the Alcoves provide welcoming zones where customers can confidently discuss financial needs.

A better, more personalised experience


The ‘grand table’ provides refreshments and a place to hang out, defying the ‘faster, leaner’ model many financial services address, thereby supporting Suncorp’s vision to build a more personalised experience for the customer. ATM’s located at the rear of the store enable a more enticing, open shopfront and encourage access into and around the store.

Flexibility and modularity


Removal of traditional tellers allows for alternative, tech-enabled transaction touchpoints to occur organically throughout the store, giving a sense of rhythm, ebb and flow where people can converge and diverge around their needs. The flexibility of the store enables the settings to be reconfigured to the real time needs of people, while the addition of integrated technology allows customer enquiries to be handled seamlessly throughout the store; transactions can occur ‘where and how’ the customer desires.

A sense of autonomy


An ecosystem of interactive displays, activation and entertainment support an immersive store experience. A digital ‘showcase’ wall with interactive digital displays and discovery tools connect customers to new solutions. Suncorp staff engage customers using digital devices to make financial opportunities clearer, choice narrower and action easy, while new technology eliminates traditional security measures to maintain an open and transparent store environment.

A sense of familiarity and comfort


The palette of finishes is a direct translation of Suncorp’s brand. Natural, honest and sustainable materials and fresh tones give a residential overlay that imparts a sense of familiarity and comfort for customers. Materials are sustainably sourced and low VOC, while consideration of sound and air quality, lighting and the integration of extensive planting create an uplifting interior with a sense of confidence and vitality.

Supporting customer wellbeing


Vertical planting and natural lighting are integrated into the stair that interconnects the two levels of the store.  Landscaping, smell, sound and lighting support a sensory ‘nature infused’ experience that reflects the relaxed, wellbeing-focused narrative of the brand – complete with a fresh juice offering and in-store lifestyle workshops.

A spectacular launch event


Suncorp’s launch event saw crowds gathered pre-opening and over 10,000 items of merchandise given away, customer foot traffic generating 3000 entries weekly and capacity reached. This resulted in 500+ participants in the activation program and coverage on Channel Nine's Today Show. This demonstrated the store’s success in opening conversations with Australians; inspiring them, reassuring them and rewarding them.

Meeting customers at their level


The Suncorp Discovery Store is designed to be a destination for customers, where they can access end-to-end solutions tailored to their life events. It draws on all of Suncorp’s brands as well as our innovative third-party providers. Discovery Store delivers an immersive retail journey, where visitors can attend events, interactive workshops and explore solutions tailored to their life goals.
