LEARN ON INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

Qantas makes sure that every airport doesn’t ‘look the same’. They want to exceed the expectations of their premium business travellers with a unique luxury experience in every airport. Qantas approached Geyer to create a world class hospitality design within brand guide lines, but would also reflect the reflect the flavours of the region.

We were inspired by a quintessential vernacular and sense of region, that open shirt collar feel of Queensland.

Simone Oliver,
Partner and Global Design Leader

Crafting a unique sense of place

Geyer collaborated with Qantas to deliver unique design elements in the lounge, which were inspired by both the natural beauty of the Tropical North, and the warmth familiarity and detail of the Queenslander home. The overall pre-flight experience is centred around the well being and practical needs of the contemporary traveller.

30 per cent more space

The Brisbane International Lounge is split across two levels, offering nearly 30 per cent more space than previous lounges and is based on the award winning Hong Kong and Singapore Lounge concept.

Regional flavor

The food and interior design took inspiration from the local region.

Crafting a unique sense of place

A key feature of the lounge is a bespoke glass and light art installation called The Pulse of Our Ancient Land created by artist Jenna Lee from Indigenous design agency Gilimbaa, based in Brisbane.

Detailed fitout of approximately 1100m2 across 1 floor at the site including a landscaped outdoor area commensurate with DHS requirements. The fitout is to include specialised areas such as nappy change, children’s toilet, mother’s nursing areas, cot rooms and play areas to cater for the needs of children ranging in ages from 0 to 5 years.

Joey Club Sydney

Created a highly functional and cost efficient childcare facility as part of Qantas’s Enterprise Bargaining Agreement with its employees. Provided a benchmark childcare facility for Qantas employees. Undertook a feasibility study of various sites in a difficult area that was under a flight path. The site was chosen for a number of reasons, its main advantages being access to outdoor areas, excellent natural light, high ceilings throughout and site availability. Created a facility to support approximately 60 children and 20 employees. Designed the space to have a high degree of flexibility to allow the Director of the centre to cater for different programming needs, and to adhere to the various regulations of both local Council and the Department of Community Services.
