As a leading international law firm headquartered in Asia, King & Wood Mallesons is recognised as one of the world’s most innovative. With a team of over 2000 lawyers in 26 locations around the internationally, KWM wanted their office in Australia to capitalise on new ways of working.

Opportunity

King Wood Mallesons (KWM) were looking to create an innovative workplace. They tasked Geyer to design spaces that would attract and retain the best talent, but also embody a dynamic approach to innovation, knowledge transfer, partner structure, reward and recognition.

Fostering collaboration


KWM is taking collaborative working to the next level with a 100% open plan design. This will transform the way they do business. The environment is specifically designed to foster collaboration, connectivity, flexibility and a more egalitarian operating model.

Privacy and confidentiality in open plan


The ability to orchestrate privacy and confidentiality, to coordinate noise and distraction were critical factors in the development of the workplace strategy by Geyer. The workplace allows for personalisation of space, shared access to natural light, effective and accessible storage, and the integration of mobile working technology.

Move freely across work stages


Each workspace has been designed with an activity in mind. Work areas provide open pods with low partitions for KWM’s people, and they can move freely into different areas depending on the work they are undertaking.

Collaboration and privacy


For collaborative work, a staff hub or a team room is available. For privacy, staff can step uninterrupted into one of the many focus rooms.

Cutting edge technology


Cutting edge technology is an integral component of the new office design. KWM has created a wireless workplace for the future that is mobile and flexible - wi-fi, laptops, wireless headsets and follow me printing allow KWM staff to move freely between different work settings while staying connected.

Change management strategy


The project sought to push the boundaries and avoid complacency in the future direction of legal environments. KWM and Geyer developed a rigorous change management strategy to ensure the new workplace and work styles were positively received across the firm.
